The founder of Keno Auctions in New York City, Leigh Keno has been working as an antique appraiser for more than four decades. A graduate of Hamilton College, Leigh Keno serves on the board of directors of the Appraisers Association of America and is a certified appraiser with the organization.

Since 1949, the Appraisers Association of America has promoted and developed standards for the profession. To join the organization, professionals must meet certain guidelines established by The Appraisal Foundation. Based on these guidelines, the Appraisers Association of America maintains three membership tracks to match the varying skill levels of each professional.

The Comprehensive Appraisal Studies Program (CASP) Track is designed for professionals moving from the role of auction specialist, curator, dealer, or another related field to the position of an appraiser. These individuals have less than five years of experience in appraisals. After completing this track, individuals can become Associate Members of the Appraisers Association of America. After three years in this position, they can become accredited members.

The Accredited Track is designed for individuals with at least five years of experience in appraisals. This track allows applicants to complete several courses with the Appraisers Association of America and ultimately leads to the title of Accredited Member.

Finally, the Advanced Track is for individuals with at least 10 years of experience in appraisals. A condensed series of courses from the Appraisers Association of America is required, along with the passing of a certification exam.
